I found this account of early England to be patchy in terms of holding my interest. It’s not the most engaging narrative style, and at times it felt like I was reading a geography textbook. My interest in Anglo-Saxon England kept me going; however, I admit to skipping over sections that proved too boring in composition.

The most worthwhile thing about this history book are the maps, detailing the changes in England over the decades and centuries. Some maps show the whole country, others show more focus on specific areas. show less
Probably the biggest contributor to the standard popular knowledge of English history in its day.
Undated but likely 1890 according to Biblio. Likely First Editions.
