As with all these little Anchor books, their strength is great stitch instructions and helpful photos showing the stitch in the context of a piece. This one is mostly what I call pulled work. If you want novelty stitches for even-weave fabric you want the book with "canvaswork" in the title
I love this book. I'm still going through all the stitches, making little samplers or working up the patterns in the back of the book. If you're tired of cross stitch, but still want to work on even-weave fabrics, I think you'll find this book extremely useful.
I have five of these little Anchor embroidery books, and they are the best stitch guides I own. They show you in detail how to do the stitch and then on the facing page is a picture of a piece of embroidery with the stitch in context with other stitches. In the back of this one are the patterns for the pieces shown in the pictures.
Great stitch instructions and a lot of very useful pictures showing the stitches in context with other stitches. There are also some patterns in the back. However, if you're new to crewel, you're going to need another book to explain how to set the piece up to start with.
