More a pamphlet than a book (only 29 pages) but, reading this immediately after Dobb's History of Capitalism, this is a good, condensed revision of the major points. The more often one reads them, the more sense they make.
Dobb is an excellent communicator: his books make tricky issues understandable to the average person (and they don't come much more average than me!).

This book really takes Capitalism from its inception to the end of WW II. There is a brief postscript taking us to the early 1960's.
Dobb leads us through Capitalism in a non sensationalist way but, shows that some of the understood 'truths' of the story, as we are told it, needs expansion and clarification.
One might ask, "How do I know that Dobb's version is true?"
The answer would have to be that I don't conclusively know but, the book is well referenced with quotes to strong supportive show more evidence and this version of the history of Capitalism answers many of those dubious areas where the received history doesn't quite ring true. show less

Political Economy and Capitalism: Some Essays in Economic Tradition (Collected Works of Maurice Dobb) by Maurice Dobb
Maurice Dobb is always worth reading.
An excellent book. This brought into focus many areas of the economic system in the western 'democracies'.
