Delightfully disturbing!
Lenore is a creepy little dead girl with no sense of her own strength, or really any idea of right and wrong. She dresses as the queen of the Fairy Gnomes then kills all her subjects because a boy threw a lawn gnome at her once... she has dreams of dancing in flowering fields wearing a bunny on her head with a pumpkin headed scarecrow, when suddenly tentacles burst out of its torso and pull her in as it bursts into flame laughing Bwa ha ha ha wickedly... she has gas, show more very very bad gas... she likes to have tea parties but woops adds drain cleaner instead of sugar. I never thought I might say this, but I love her dead kitties. show less

I kind of wish that these typs of morbin books had been around when I was a kid, besides the classic Gashlycrumb Tinies, because they are absolutely delightful. Not in the typical way, obviously, but for someone who appreciates a twisted sense of humou, these poems are absolutely hilarious. Dirge doesn't quite nail it with every poem (the pirate squid only got a few lines, com on, there's totally an epic waiting there!), but he definitely has the skill to place among the Edward Goreys and show more Tim Burtons of the pseudo-children's book publishing pantheon. show less
The recap squirrel? What a start! And what a deliciously weird story.
Cooties is like Wedgies and Noogies, only like a million times better. Better art, better humor, better story, better everything. Lenore finally gets a continuous plot, and this allows Dirge's humor to shine without dictating the page. I actually chuckled out loud a couple of times, which is a rare occurence no matter what I'm reading. (It was the banana sequence...)
If you've read the previous books and are unsure about the series, I would strongly recommend giving Cooties a try. It's like show more Wedgies and Noogies, only like a billion times better. Seriously. show less
