This is a biographical novel about serving in peacetime Korea just after the Armistice there. Coon's dry wit, often exhibited in his extensive "Star Trek " work is exhibited here as well. The novel is entertaining, but not very fond of the military way of doing thngs, especially in third world countries, as Korea was then. The problems of drug use by bored soldiers gets an early airing here .
I mean, it's a fotonovel. If you like "Metamorphosis" (I don't particularly) you will like it. If you don't, you might still like it (I had forgotten how mixed up the Zefram Cochrane lore was). Alas, no "Magic Carpet Ride."
This is the one about the intelligent rock who is protecting her egg-babies from the evil miners. As I have said elsewhere, videos of these episodes didn't exist back in the day, and these foto-books were the nearest thing to a rerun. The photos are well chosen, and the layout is good.
One of my favorite episodes. When Spock waves his tommy-gun and says, "I'd advise youse to keep dialin'," I rolled on the floor.
