Maurice Campbell Cornforth (1909–1980)

Reading this book was like opening a pair of curtains: the light simply flooded in with the turn of every page. Mr Cornforth has a style that brings philosophy to life. The obfuscation that is so often apparent as learned people try to retain their air of mysticism is totally absent in this book.

The main topic is Linguistic Philosophy (considering the title, you may not be surprised by this revelation!) but our author gives us a trip through the story of philosophy, helping to put show more Linguistic Philosophy into its context. Mr Cornforth is a Marxist (another barnstorming understanding of the book's title) so, it is not surprising that the argument has a Marxist slant. Th good thing is that Mr C. brings Marxism to life too.
