Photographic Essay
Wilcox book outlines how we deal with trash, revealing where it all ends up. Landfills and dumps are thoroughly explained, as well as alternative options for discarding solid waste. Wilcox declares recycling as our best option at the end of the book. The book has great pictures and diagrams, as well as a short glossary. While some of the practices described in the book are still in use today, much of the book is outdated.
This book could be used as a reference show more for a report on trash, but really doesn’t hold much more value than that. Trash! does contain important information that puts where our waste actually goes into perspective, but it’s hard to imagine that most kids would find it very engaging. show less
A nice, short book that talks about the last wild horses in the world, Przewalski's Horse. Very nice pictures with some interesting historical information.

The Beagle is part of the series Learning About Dogs. This is a book that reluctant readers will enjoy for its simplicity, easy language and information about a popular breed of dog. The table of contents is clear about the contents of the book. Chapters are titled and subtitled with good organization for research. There are photographs with captions on every other page. A helpful photo diagram of the parts of the beagle's body is included along with a "Quick facts about dogs" section. A show more glossary, index and bibliography of books and internet resources is included as well as addresses for students to send off for further information. The intended audience is upper elementary with lower level readability. It was published in 1998, but since this kind of basic information doesn't change much over time, it is considered to remain a good source. The author consulted with the Education Chairman of the National Beagle Club for accuracy. show less
