One of the few coffee table style books I've seen that strikes the perfect balance between information and photography.

The first sixty pages or so, while filled with images of the incredible stash of stuff from the Hard Rock, also tells the interesting story of the original owners and the history of both the Hard Rock and the collection of many of the pieces they ultimately came to hold.

The next 240 pages are full page images of literally hundreds, if not thousands of things from the entire show more world and history of rock. Everything's in here and it's glorious to look at.

An excellent book. I'd just like to see an update of what's been acquired since the publication of this book, fifteen years ago.

I loved this book! I wish I owned it!

Great art - great coffee table book. It's full of pictures and posters and record albums. The pages are covered in song lyrics, the articles are so interesting.

Lots of rock, rockabilly, punk, country - and lots of cars. Lots of fun.

I know a lot of these songs and a lot of these bands.

I didn't read all the articles so I think I'll be checking this out from the library again. I did end up singing on just about every page with all the song references in it. show more ("Here I come in my '57, she's a real low rider, paint perfection. . . . )

I have to quote this book. This is my music and it is a great description.

"The Alt-Rock-Country-Roots-Rockabilly-Car-Lovin' Sound.

An affectionate parody of liberal-reared, local trailer-park culture, melding a skewed - but always heady - gonzo outlook with a wild, careening brand of highly informed, retro-minded roots-rock, incorporating a southern-fried amalgam of psycho-rockabilly, classic Canned Heat-John Lee Hooker boogie, and alt-country-swamp-pop, plus a dose of California surf guitar, a hint of punk attitude, a splash of tongue-in-cheek, and an altogether wise-ass party bank approach delivered with raunchy grooves, a bluesy rumble, and manic showmanship.

Southern Culture on the Skids? Deke Dickerson? The Drive-By Truckers? Dave and Phil Alvin and the Blasters? Lucinda Williams? The Reverend Horton Heat? The Paladins? Iguanas? Bottle Rockets? Jeff Tweedy and Wilco? Kings of Leon?

What links all of them to each other is their love for car, truck, and road imagery set against their own, individual road maps across the new millennium."
