Frequently while reading this burst, I would pause to let out an outburst of excitement and fact-check the information online. Apparently there exists on planet Earth the "cookie-cutter shark." I really enjoyed this DK book particularly, as it seems to most flexible, user-friendly nonfiction book for children I have read in a while. If you read only the big, bold print opening statement on each page, the book is still fairly enjoyable as a whole. If you pick it apart to read in themed units show more on sharks, or deep sea fish, each page has a wealth of rare-known facts available. The vocabulary is incredible as well. show less
This book has nice large photos of real bugs. This is a great teaching tool for children as they get to see up close the detail without having to touch the real thing. Many of the bugs in the book are a bit more exotic than what you may find in your typical backyard.
Ocean Life is a small book filled with many pictures and loads of information. It definitely describes the major aspects of the ocean and what all is involved in and around it. The book has pictures for everything it talks about. It talks about the ocean in general, the life that lives within it, and what all is contact with the ocean. The book discusses sound waves, color of the living creatures, and the lights on the fish. I rate this book 4 out of 5 because even though it had a ton of show more information, I don’t think many students are willing to read a book filled with information. The pictures are great! This is a book that I would use if I needed pictures from the ocean. show less
This book talked about bugs. There are many, many types of bugs. This book showed how some bugs are helpful and some are harmful. It also talked about what different types of food that these bugs eat, and where these bugs might live.
I really can't say I cared much for this book, because I hate bugs, but however it really informed me about the different types of bugs that I might see.
One activity you could do with your children would be go on a nature walk and find different types of bugs, show more and then come look closely at these bugs and find out what they eat, ect. The students could also draw different types of bugs and hang them up in the classroom. show less
