This book is adorable and perfect for my special needs preschool students. The illustrations are colorful and fun and the text is very simple, one large print word on each page, and the text is styled in a way that fits perfectly with what's going on in the picture. Cute and unexpected and a perfect way to discuss letters, new vocabulary, and animal behaviors and characteristics with the littlest readers. A section in the back with further information on the animals for older readers. A show more unique book! show less
Very pretty. The idea of counting pieces of each image that make up each number is clever and fun, but too often it doesn't quite work and I had to resort to the key in the back to see how MacDonald came up with the count. For example pieces that touched at point-to-point were sometimes counted as one, sometimes as two. I would love to see someone be inspired by this and make a new pretty book along roughly similar lines (don't copy!).
Great illustrations. I love how the numbers where drawn into the animals instead of just standing alone. Great for introduction or reviewing numbers 1-10. Also lots of animals to review for discussions.
This is such a fun book with cut-out fish. There is up-side-down text with written numbers on the top and numbers with a few repetitive words on the bottom. My grandsons both read it together facing one-another one reading the top and the other reading the bottom. A really great book for young children to learn to read and to count.
