I enjoyed this book a lot. The first reason I enjoyed this book was for it's informative language. The language helps to detail a lot of what can be found in Washington D.C., from cherry blossom trees, to the metro station. Its great for a young reader to learn about these things. Secondly, the illustrations are wonderful. The pictures are beautiful, and full of the colorful and interesting things that can be found in this city. One of the photographs that really stuck out to me was one from show more inside of the National Air and Space Museum. It could really instill an interest in young readers! I liked this book for many reasons. The first reason is because it is extremely multicultural and depicts how children get to school in 11 different countries. I think students would find it very interesting to hear the many ways to get to school such as riding horses, donkeys, snowmobiles, pedicabs, and boats. Another reason I thought this was a good book is because of the many extra textual features including a glossary, a map of the world, and an index. These features allow students to show more extend their knowledge and easily navigate the book. The map is especially helpful because many students are not aware of where countries like Sudan, Vietnam, Egypt, or Ecuador are. Having a map of the world will help students locate the region and better understand the geographical differences between the countries. The last reason that I liked this book is because it used real photographs of each country that it refers to. This allows the reader to observe the big cities in Australia, the desert setting of Sudan, the snow covered region of Canada, and the bodies of water in Egypt. Meet President Barack Obama is a kid friendly book and informational text that presents a brief biography of former Barack Obama. It is a kid friendly book with friendly illustrations that could be used as an engaged discussion on family and heritage. It is about the life of a boy and his journey to becoming president. I really love how race is not the topic but the fact that a kid who went through hard times became president of the United States, which makes the book universal.

Overall I really liked this book. One thing that I really liked was the first page. It presented the reader with all the important vocabulary that they will need to look for while reading. It also showed the reader how to pronounce each word. For example, one of the words is dribble and in parenthesis it showed how to pronounce the word (drib-uhl). Secondly, I liked the pictures because they were real pictures. I do love children’s books with illustrations but for informational texts I show more love real life pictures. It shows the reader what the real life objects or things that are being taught throughout the book actually like. For example, there are pictures of actual people playing a game of soccer. The main theme of this book is to teach the reader about the game of soccer. show less
