Bestselling author Iyanla Vanzant has had an amazing and difficult life -- one of great challenges that unmasked her wonderful gifts and led to wisdom gained. In this simple book, she uses her own personal experiences to show how life's hardships can be re-languaged and re-visioned to become lessons that teach us as we grow, show more heal, and learn to love. The pain of the past does not have to be today's reality. Iyanla Vanzant is an example of how yesterday's tears become the seeds of today's hope, renewal, and strength. show less
Vanzant writes for black women, but her lessons apply to all to all women. In this book she unflinchingly tells her own story, from all-but-abandoned child to single mother to lawyer to successful writer and spiritual advisor. Reading about her struggle to learn to love herself I encountered many familiar feelings, and some unfamiliar because they'd been squashed down so deep. Vanzant's voice is formidable. I recommend this book for any woman who's getting less than she wants out of life and show more can't quite figure out why. show less

One Day My Soul Just Opened Up: 40 Days and 40 Nights Toward Spiritual Strength and Personal Growth by Iyanla Vanzant
Looking for spiritual growth? This book will guide you well. In-depth sections on many spiritual stumbling blocks e.g. Trust/Truth/Forgiveness. Format is great, daily subject with concise synopsis/ thought for the day, affirmations and exercises based on daily reading.
Gives encouragement to record personal reflections, a rewarding means of documenting progress. Can seem challenging to face many subjects hidden in long-lived denial, but worth the effort, a real life changer. I found myself show more that a strange yet very obvious synchronicity developed, between each daily topic and my day-to-day experiences. show less
