This book covers the 1840's through the 1890's. All the photographs are period and appear to be from the middle class as well as the wealthy. There are also children and elderly in some photos. Each photo is discussed in the context of the fashion trends of the era. With the help of this book, costumes can be designed for the theater or reenactments and very old family pictures can possibly be dated within 10 years. This is an excellent reference book.
