In Howe's play, a daughter helps her aging parents move out of their house while struggling to remain focused on her work as a painter. She does so by painting a portrait of her parents, depicting their decline but also preserving a part of her past. Howe calls it her "deepest play," and critic Gerald Bordman singles it out as one of her most memorable, distinguished by her fundamental humanity and insight into human character.
