Such a funny story! A chef who has to answer the demands of a costumer who complained about not being able to eat his soup, to finally admit to all the important people in town, it is because he doesn't have a spoon. If you like singing like me, this is a fantastic Read Aloud, Contemporary Realistic Fiction, that could help you introduce an Opera. Excellent for predicting, since the text is repetitive, for synthesizing, and considering text structure. Dramatic expressions painted in elegant show more oil colors, and combined with a real picture of an audience opera theater, applauding and yelling "Bravo!" show less
Jim Gill is a treasure. This silly book introduces opera (with the accompanying CD) in a dramatic and endearing way.
picture book with singing.
I only read this once for a 3rd grade class; they liked it OK--I can't tell if they were quiet because they are a quiet class, or if the maybe didn't like it as much as I thought they would. Will try it again maybe with a different class.
