Blood Ravens: The Dawn of War Omnibus Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War, Yrials of Isador, Dawn of War Ascension, Dawn of War Tempest. by C. S. Goto
It took me a while, but this book was certainly worth reading. For me, it was very appealing to see librarians that kick ass, and this book certainly highlights the Space Marine librarian characters well, including the good and the darker sides. That the Blood Ravens Space Marines are scholars themselves is also appealing. The books feature a good amount of action and intrigue, but if you like reading more about the lore of the Space Marines, you get a good amount of description and show more exposition as well. For the librarian in me, the descriptions of the Blood Ravens' librarium, the legends of the Eldar Black Library, and the Blood Ravens' pursuit of truth and knowledge (yes, those two are different) were things that drew me to this omnibus. However, you do not have to be a librarian to appreciate these novels. If you like good military scifi, you will probably enjoy these. If you already like WH 40K novels, these will be good for you. Though the books are based on a computer game, I do not feel it is necessary to have played the game; I have not played the game, and I certainly enjoyed these books. Overall a very good and entertaining read.
Now, as for what character type I would want to be if I was in the WH 40K universe, I usually said an Imperial Inquisitor, but after this, it is a bit of a toss up between that and a Blood Ravens librarian member of the Order Psykana. show less

I am not a particular fan of C S Goto, but this book is something of a stand out exception for me.
For warhammer 40K fans it offers an interesting glimpse not only into the world of an Eldar Craftworld, but one with a twist of isolationism. One of my friends commented that the details from this book would make a fantastic background for a Eldar Craftworld Necromunda campaign, such is the detail that the author produces. It even has a Language Appendix at the back of the book!
It is the story show more of a lonely craftworld with little to no contact with the outer 40k universe. As a result, the alien Eldar on this world-ship have fragmented into an almost feudal society, with only the Aspect Warrior staying neutral as various factions vay for power. The story has some stand out twists and the characters are put in danger at unexpected times.
This is a really good read for any 40K player, particularly those who collect an Eldar army. I warn you; it will give you ideas! show less

I didn' play the game, so my opinion is just about the book and it's.... Not bad. It's very obviously made after a videogame almost nothing more than a series of battles after battles but it truly reflects the blood atmosphere of WH40k, the crazy future, the brutal, merciless struggle between the forces of chaos and the similarly distorted mankind.

Standard Warhammer40k book with Space Marines, the elda and the forces of Chaos. Interesting, a good read, closes the trilogy but in a whole nothing special.
