The author and her girlfriend have to leave their apartment after 9/11. They go in search of a place to live and come across this small burg of Garrsion on the Hudson across from West Point. They find themselves in Guinans bar and general store. This is the place they will stay. This book is small vingettes from this small town and particularly this bar. It is about making a home where you feel welcome and comfortable and making the most out of what is there. A quick, easy read, but well show more worth it. Very enjoyable. show less
A reminder to treasure the venues that make a town a community even if they are rough around the edges or down at the heels! Reminded me a little of some of the love that people have for the characters and small town drama of Niles, except I am ashamed to say, I think we are a little more cynical here!
The story of an Irish bar and the people who loved it. A paean to Guidian's Pub/General Store in Garrison, NY, just across the river from West Point. An enjoyable read
rabck from HI77; after the 9/11 attacks, the author found herself in Garrison, NY when she couldn't move back to her apartment. She finds a small town, complete with a grocery & Irish small bar, with it's local flavor and characters. It was a nice change from the helter-skelter existence of NYC, so the author chose to put down roots here.
