The simple story in this book is just to lead the child from one character to the next - beautifully put-together sea scenes with stunning costumes that babies' faces have been photoshopped on in the appropriate place. Little ones adore looking at other babies' faces and they will adore this book as much as their parents appreciate the cute factor of it.
Substance: Not immortal poetry, but the kids in costumes are cute.
Style: Photographs in the style of Anne Geddes, but not quite so elaborately staged.
My son likes the baby pictures, but the animals are unusual and difficult to identify - for me not just a two-year-old. The first picture is a lemur, there's a lynx, a beaver, a seal and I don't remember what else. Oh, there is a lion, but it isn't called a lion - just the "king of beasts." So, it's ok, but not great.
My one-year-old son loves this book and requests that I read it over and over. The pictures are very cute and it text is enjoyable to read.
