It's a pretty decent introductory set of poems, and manages to include a large number of poems either famous in themselves or containing lines that have long escaped the actual poem's popularity (Give me a tall ship, and a star to steer her by). If the goal was to provide a (very) broad overview of many english-speaking writers of many genres while hitting most of the Greatest Hits, it succeeded.

Unfortunately, like all of the Barnes & Noble anthologies like this, there is only a brief show more introduction, no notes or commentary or author bios, and not a word anywhere of who the editor is or why they chose what they did. Credit your editors, B&N. show less
