Filled with the heart-pounding suspense and masterful writing I’ve come to expect from a Susan Sleeman book, Seconds to Live starts off the Homeland Heroes series with a bang. Her impeccable research and plot development, along with realistic, well-developed, and endearing characters never fail to satisfy. With her vast knowledge of criminal investigation, forensic evidence, and investigation procedures, I always come away with a deeper appreciation for the depth of the research Sleeman show more puts into her novels.
Main characters Sean Nichols and Taylor Mills are engaging and multi-layered, and I enjoyed getting to know them. They both had major trust issues to deal with which made them reluctant to form deep attachments. I liked the way their relationship evolved slowly, even though they had communicated for months online before meeting in person. It made for a unique and fascinating connection.
Threads of inspiration are seamlessly woven into the story without being preachy. Trust, forgiveness of self and others, and faith, are major takeaways. “One thing he’d forgotten, and important thing: God didn’t betray. Didn’t turn His back. He was always the same loving God. Always wanting the best for His children.”
If you like riveting, nail-biting stories filled with suspense, intrigue, and romance with a side measure of faith and inspiration, you’re sure to enjoy Seconds to Live. Sleeman has fast become one of my favorite Christian suspense authors, and I’m looking forward to more of her fantastic books in the future. 4.5 stars

BREATHTAKING
“Norman Fowler was free to terrorize her again.”
With this opening sentence, bestselling author Susan Sleeman takes readers through a breathtaking plot that involves a bank robbery witness who was threatened with revenge when she would not back down from her testimony. Years have passed, and now she is a single mom with a critically ill child in the hospital, again, and just in time for Christmas. Can you imagine the fear and helplessness a parent would feel if their show more vulnerable child were suddenly the focus of a crazed killer? And, the killer was after her, too? To complicate matters even more, the person who responds to her bloodcurdling screams for help is none other than the Former FBI Agent who worked her case, and they also crossed the line and developed feelings for each other. That is until he decided his career was more important and left. There are still a lot of feelings between them, and they are not all positive. It is at this point in the plot that Sleeman works her magic and uses all the intense suspense to build the romance. She is masterful at this! This book is another winner! show less

A friend once told us, “I fell in love with [the daughter] before I fell in love with [her mother]. Nicole and Matt may be the two main characters, but little blue-eyed three-year-old Emilie quickly becomes the star of Christmas Hideout! Nicole thinks she has to clean up her life before returning to God. Matt has trust issues with God. Emilie is just adorable, sweet, and innocent; plus she has a special Christmas wish. I just loved how Emilie manages to burrow her way into everybody’s show more heart, but especially Matt’s. The mystery‘s end has quite a twist, and the romance is great, but it is the child’s heart that steals mine in this suspenseful, yet heartwarming novel by Susan Sleeman. So good I finished in one sitting. I received a complimentary copy from the author. I am voluntarily leaving a review, and all opinions are my own. show less
Lost Truth is a compelling addition to the Lost Lake Locators series. I love the awesome Lost Lake Locators private investigating team and was waiting eagerly to return to the Oregon coast to dig into their next case. This story exceeded my expectations keeping me reading attentively and sometimes breathlessly as the suspense and danger mounted! The masterfully woven plot, with unexpected twists and turns, kept me guessing at the outcome. Characters, main and secondary, are well-crafted and show more memorable. The story features as its lead characters Lost Lake Locator Hayden Kraus and investigative journalist Cadence "Cady" Vaughan. Despite the unrelenting attraction between the two, they have intense personal issues that challenge their future as a couple. Their evolving romantic relationship enhances the story. The meaningful faith message on the importance of trusting God in all circumstances is a much-needed reminder. I totally enjoyed this story and look forward to the next case! This book has my highest recommendation.
