When Grace and Frankie are asked to meet by their husbands over dinner, the two of them think that what's about to happen is that they're going to announce that they're retiring from the legal practice the two of them have been successfully running for several years, not that they were going to announce that they wanted a divorce so that they could marry, each other.

A tour de force by all involved, the younger members of cast are overshadowed by the older members and they are so realistic show more and so clever, there are a few missteps and a few moments where the humour is a little forced but overall the story works well and engaged me. I binge watched the entire season over a Saturday and don't regret a moment. show less

There's something intrinsically funny about tactlessly truth-telling talking animals. And there are plenty of those--and laughs to go with them--in this 1998 reimagining of Hugh Lofting's children's story. Murphy plays the doctor in question, a modern-day San Francisco physician who discovers that he can understand what animals have to say. Director Betty Thomas makes the most of an amazing voice cast for the animals, led by Norm McDonald and including everyone from Garry Shandling show more to Julie Kavner to Albert Brooks. The story itself is pretty slim--will the conscientious doctor sign his soul away to a greedy HMO?--but Murphy makes the most of it, often providing priceless reactions to animal voices only he can hear. --Marshall Fine show less
