*spoilers!*

This was a pretty good book, although the main plot seemed to start a little late in the book. I liked learning about the Andalusian horses, and as I read books in this series I'm starting to realize that they take real events in history and weave them into the book. I feel like the book could've spent more time on Calvino's doma clasica training with Rico, that felt a little rushed. But overall it was a very good book.

This was a pretty decent book. I really felt for Darcy in the beginning: She was born the same day as another foal, and they started their lives as best friends. Darcy looked to the other young horse for guidance, so when she fell off the cliff and died Darcy was kind of lost. For a long time she mourned over her friend, but then she got sold to the McKenna family. She works hard for the family, and when the eldest daughter, Shannon, gets into it with the snobby rich son of their show more rich landlord, a race is called. Darcy and Shannon win the race by cutting through the bog, a place the other horse can't get through. I thought that was awesome, that Darcy was able to pick her way through the bog in order to beat the other horse; Darcy knew her way through the bog because the other daughter had ridden her through there as a shortcut to the doctor's when their mother got sick. Add in the eldest son going off to war, and coming back with a missing leg and (temporarily) broken spirit, and this was a fine book. Once again I was very impressed with the beautiful illustrations, too. show less

This was an okay book. It was a little slow to start, and the "main conflict" didn't actually start until more then halfway through the book. But once Pale Moon got sick, and Little Turtle decided that he had to go on his vision quest to try to help Pale Moon, I started liking the plot a little more. Golden Sun helped Little Turtle on the vision quest, and was the one to find the plant that he needed to help Pale Moon. I also warmed up to the side story about Dancing Feathers, the show more rather wild and disobedient filly that Pale Moon slowly tames. I like that Golden Sun helped Dancing Feather and tried to show her that being with the tribe was a good thing. show less

Lily and her rider, Gwen, are members of the pony club in Great Britain during the start of the Second World War. They are very good competitors until a new girl joins the club. At first there is jealousy and then understanding. Will the girls become friends or just remain rivals?
Lily is the 15th title in the Horse Diaries series. Readers in grades 4-6 will love this addition to the series. It is another story for those who love both horses and history. It is recommended if you already have show more the series. show less
