The book was a heckuva lot better than I had anticipated. Robertson, a physician, gives an account of his time spent with a whaling boat near the death of the industry. Robertson is a surprisingly engaging writer, with a good self-deprecating sense of humor and an easy-to-read conversational style. He mostly simply recounts his observations and some things about the whaling industry, which was a pretty gruesome trade. Real men doing manly jobs. I enjoyed this.
he tries to give a real portrait of the life but the whole thing is so bloody and cruel.
Personal account of the whalers, the whales, the whaling life, and comments on the life now gone from around the island of South Georgia.
