In this book, the author draws on handwritten diaries, little-known autobiographies, forgotten minute books, and life-story interviews with peace activists. Her richly researched and readable work disentangles the different and often complex feminist analyses of militarism over the past 170 years, offering the first major reappraisal of the women's peace movement from its beginnings to the present day.
I've been slow reading this book, but the stories it tells, of young Yorkshire women who became involved in the women's suffrage campaign in 1906-1914, are fascinating.

This was not the book I thought I was buying. From the cover blurb, I was hoping for a broad-based overview of the Votes for Women campaign in Britain. What I actually got was a very Yorkshire-focused narrative of the early 20th century (1906 - 1914) centered around a small group of women. Nevertheless there was enough background here of the national movement to not lose those of us whose first exposure to the subject this is, and the book was a pretty good read.
