I thought this was a great book. I liked this book because of the extra textual features ad because of the use of real photographs. The extra textual features were great because they introduced the style of textbooks to the young reader. They added a sense of interest and color outside of just the pictures. For example, each page has a script paper on it with fun facts like, "Malcom was elected class president when he was a student at Mason Junior High." I also love that the author used real show more photographs. This gave the reader a better visual of who Malcom X was and all that he did. It also helped to picture the time period in which Malcom X was influential and a prominent figure. I especially like the photograph of Malcom X speaking at a meeting for the Nation of Islam. The main message I took from this biography is that Malcom X was an incredible figure in history who worked with Muslims, civil rights, and tolerance. show less
Working at the Farmer's Market: Solving Money Problems Involving the Four Math Operations (Math for the Real World) by Barbara M. Linde
Great way to discuss all of the math operations. I love the tie in with the farmer's market. So many of my students can draw on their knowledge of visiting farmer's markets, because so many of my families visit them!
My students would LOVE this book. I love the use of origami and geometry. What a great idea.
Book leaves out things kids would want to know - how big was the first horse. First illustration shows a bird like creature more prominently than the horse - confusing.
