Excellent version of this tale of the conflict between rational thought and feelings of the heart. The performances and casting are good, and although the settings are perhaps a little too romanticised, they are still satisfactory. The adaptation by Andrew Davies keeps all essential elements whilst being lively and not afraid to show unpleasant things.

Far superior to most cop shows out today. The characters speak in clipped sentences with little inflection. Rufus Sewell is exceptional.

Rufus Sewell does give us a sardonic Zen. The BBC,as far as production of such crime and mystery dramas is concerned, does as usual a pretty good job, despite lots of "atmospheric" filler padding out the time. Yet it canceled Zen after only the first three episodes. A shame.
