As others have commented, the accompanying book is slim, but it's actually not a bad little guide. In addition to the upright and reversed meanings, this book provides a keyword for each card. The keyword selected by the author for each card is about the best of any guide I've seen. It's a great way of providing a one-word foundation. In a way you don't need much more than that--the deck you're using should help you interpret beyond that.

As to the deck that comes with this book, what a show more stinker for a beginner. The Minor Arcana are your basic pip cards--not at all helpful. Use the book, but ditch the deck. show less
Tarot Mysteries
Rediscovering the Real Meaning of the Cards
by Jonathan Dee

I got so much out of reviewing this 321 page eye-opener. To tell you the truth I thought I had read it all when it came to the Rider-Waite tarot deck books, but I was wrong. The author is amazing. He has all kinds of necessary info all in one place even down to the astrological relationship associated with each card.

Another thing I thoroughly enjoyed was how much space there was to write my own insights and I thought show more the included spreads were great. I would recommend this heavenly hunny to anyone wanting to understand the tarot that little bit more. Thanks Jonathan, you rock.

Love & Light,

Riki Frahmann

A very, very basic book on reading the tarot. Not really great for anything beyond the usual slumber party stuff, but a good introduction.
This book is a collection of translations of Ancient Egyptian texts that are myths and legends and social history tales of the time of the pharoahs. Accompanied by color photographs of sculptures, tomb walls, and artifacts, the stories are an entry into the mind of the ancients.
