The story of an aboriginal man accused of rape and murder of a young girl in Ceduna, S.A. in 1958. From the start of investigation through to the trial there were anomalies and poor practice of officials throughout that led to questions about how the confession was gained, the guilty verdict and the evidence that was and was not produced. This book covers in detail the actions and attitudes of those involved - police, legal representatives on both sides, newspapers of the day and community show more attitudes to the death penalty. It also follows Stuart's life after parole and release through to his activities on the Central Land Council as a fully initiated Arrendte man. A very interesting review of life and attitudes and the changes that occurred over 50 years. show less

If you travel through Australia you can hardly not notice that nearly every town or city has a war memorial. This book will give you the story of the society that created those memorials, and into our society that continues to maintain, refurbish and build monuments anew. Very readable, acerbic, witty and insightful. Highly recommended.
