Dr. Buisseret has written a stunning and visually exciting book. It is useful as a primer to the history of cartography and Buisseret delights in providing the very latest in cartographic theory and hints at possible avenues of further research. The book is well-documented and illustrated with scores of grayscale images and a dozen color plates. The only drawback of this edition was its small size and awkward shape. Other editions seem to have corrected this error. The size made the larger show more maps too cluttered and claustrophobia set in, however, many of the smaller maps and woodcuts showed up wonderfully. A bit dry in places, but an excellent foray into cartographic history. show less
A nifty and short introduction by a master cartographic historian offering a brief overview of maps of the "Metroplex." If you live in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, or you like maps, you'll enjoy this book. Each map, from Pineda's 1519 chart of the Gulf Coast to a 2004 road atlas, is shown or shown in detail, along with a black and white sketch map to clarify the way the Metroplex fits into the region.
A wonderful collection of lectures from the Webb Lectures at the University of Texas at Arlington on creolization in the Americas. Some of the essays are quite good and make you think in new ways about the subject. A must read.
