Beethoven and His Nine Symphonies (Dover Books on Music) by George Grove

Start playing any Beethoven symphony at any point, and odds are I'll recognize it in 20 seconds or less. But there's always more to learn about them. Grove provides both the historical context and a detailed musical analysis of each symphony. It's an ideal book for any lover of classical music.
