Clever Raccoons by Kristin Nelson is another great informational book that I used during our Louisiana Wildlife study. It provides young readers with some basic information about raccoons, such as where they live, what they eat, and how they grow from kits to adult raccoons. My boys connected to this book easily and they were very interested in the information about raccoons. A couple of boys chose raccoons as their topic for the nonfiction pieces we are writing in writer's workshop. This show more book also served as a great lesson for author's purpose: to inform. The boys could easily remember/give evidence from the text to support the author's purpose in a whole group discussion as well. I will use this book again in the future. show less
