This is a rather dry presentation of Egyptian social history. I think it brings out the limitations of the historical evidence more than anything else. For the general reader I recommend Trigger's later book, Understanding Early Civilizations, instead of this one.
Grote nadruk op feiten, weinig op individuele farao's (tenzij ze een nieuwe evolutie inzetten). De nadruk van het werk blijft toch liggen op de 'hogere' klassen: farao en zijn omgeving, het bestuur. Een gevolg van de beschikbare bronnen? Wat in elk geval duidelijk wordt, verrassend genoeg, is het gebrek aan degelijk archeologisch onderzoek in Egypte.
