This is a story of a an Italian man who has been imprisoned in relation to the death of his French wife. You learn about their courtship, their marriage, and its disintegration. Although his wife was born in France, she is of Iranian descent, and is assumed by many to be a Muslim. As she strives to stand up for women's rights, her religious beliefs change, leading to a shocking conclusion. This was a very good **** novel.

This could not sustain my interest to the end.

It is written well, but the story is slow moving and somewhat disjointed. I suspect these are the major factors which led to a lack of connection with the characters and story.
