The scenery, the magical effects and the acting and directing were all excellent, we thought, even if there was rather more implied intimacy than I had ever seen before in productions of this play. While there’s nothing untoward shown, there are several scenes where it’s obvious that couples are naked, and in at least one of them it is very clear what is about to happen.

Shakespeare’s plays are full of innuendoes and bawdiness, but it was rather more overt in this production than in the show more live theatre I have seen previously. That apart, I would recommend this very highly, if you don’t mind a rather different style of production. It was very amusing in places, and we enjoyed it thoroughly. show less
The pace of the film works well, and the humour is understated but made us chuckle aloud a couple of times. Several of the several humorous moments are due to the cleverly choreographed actions of young Sammy (Alex D Linz), who almost entirely stole the show, as far as I was concerned.

There's nothing deep or particularly thought-provoking, but it was well done and made an enjoyable evening's viewing.

2024 movie #47. 1991. Soap opera satire with a plot as Byzantine as any soap. Some funny performances from Field and Kline. Field in particular shows a great ability for physical comedy. It's got a great '90s cast including Carrie Fisher as a bit player.
Light-hearted and brilliantly executed, Colin Firth is the art curator Harry, working for the arrogant multi-millionaire Lionel, played by Alan Rickman. Cameron Diaz and Stanley Tucci are other well-known faces in this story of a planned art heist which doesn't go quite as planned...

Amusing in places, free of bedroom scenes (though there are plenty of innuendoes) and even the language is not too bad, other than some insults. The storyline is ridiculous, the ending cleverly - and unexpectedly show more - done, and the whole makes an enjoyable evening's viewing when escapism and humour are wanted.
