B-29: the Superfortress (Ballantine's Illustrated History of World War II, Weapons Book No. 17) by Carl Berger
introduction to the B-29, the development of the B29 Superfortress and a history of its air operations against Japan in WW2, history of how the B29 was developed and the challenge of getting it to work in winning the war with Japan. The information provided is very detailed such as how the plane had to be modified to make it work well during development, low-level vs. high-level bombing, pilot training, and mechanical improvements. It provides the strategies to most effectively leverage the show more use of the plane including how military leadership was altered so the best leaders were available for this super-plane. Little known information is also provided such as what kinds of Japanese fighter planes existed and how they flew directly into B29s attempting to cause them to crash. show less
