Undertandably biased view about the attept to recognize Ebonics as a separate language which should not only be accepterd by schools, but should be a medium of instruction. I happen not to agree with either assumption, but this well-written book certainly makes powerful arguments for its view.
Rethinking Multicultural Education: Teaching for racial and cultural justice by Rethinking Schools Org
An excellent collection of essays regarding multicultural education. Despite thinking myself quite open-minded this book opened my eyes to many cultural practices (or omissions) that I'd never considered . Plus it has an essay that delineates why the popular 90s video game Oregon Trail is racist, sexist, and anti-environment, which in itself made the book worth it.
How do you respond when a child asks: "Can a girl turn into a boy?"
What if your daughter brings home schoolbooks with sexist, racist stories?
What does "queering the curriculum" really mean? What does it look like?
What's wrong with "anti-bullying"policies?
Rethinking Sexism, Gender, and Sexuality is filled with inspiring, from-the-ground stories about practical ways to include LGBTQ content in curriculum, make it a part of an approach to social justice, and create classrooms and schools that show more nurture all children and their families.
