3 a.m. Henry Bins - Books 1 thru 5 - All I can say is - wow!! Totally crazy story5 books in 1 audible pick - which by the way was "Included" as part of my membership. Henry Bins has "Henry Bins Syndrome" it's named after him because he was the 1st and probably the only person to have this syndrome - he is only awake 1 hour per day - from 3 am to 4 am sometimes he wakes up early. He really does accomplish a whole lot during that 1 hour - His father Richard was instrumental in planning his day show more so that he could learn, exercise and do all the things a normal child could do - his mother - (turns out to not be who he thought she was) left him when he was young - but that is a story for book #2 - in Book #1 he witnesses a murder out his window at the house next door - the murderer's face comes into view by the street light - its 3 am and Henry begins his investigation. This series teeters on the total ridiculous but ends up being plausible and although a mystery is also pretty comical. Totally engaging - the end was just too soon and I hope there is a Book 6 - I mean --- it can not end like this! Loved this Series! show less
Thomas is pretty much the poster child for toxic masculinity. He doesn't learn from any mistake he makes whatsoever. Mostly his bad decisions bite him in the ass, but, he never learns as all men of his stripe do. At worst he's a sexist pig and at best hopelessly deluded about women.

TOTAL missed opportunity for Harold & Maude in the fourth book, but the writer is probably too young to know that movie. Pity.

Overall good enough for me to plow through, but not more. Thomas never grows or show more changes, but at least he stopped calling his dick by name in the third person. show less

Prescott comes across as a real dirt bag who objectifies women. Then I show more realized that he is an archetypical farce complicated by some anoxic brain damage and the constant need to verify self and life common to first responders/ER personnel/and others who are forced to face the reality of man's inhumanity to man. Annoying as that stuff is, he is also a brilliant detail oriented detective. I should note that the first book that I read in this series was the 2023 prequel that adds another layer to his messed up self.
The farce of his personality (and his sister's narcoleptic Pug) somewhat counteracts the horror of this case with its multiple murders emphasized as a cat and mouse game between the psycho and Prescott with a large cast of multiple local, county, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. Can you get through some of the descriptions without barfing? Prescott couldn't.
I got this in audio narrated by Johnny Heller who really proved his acting skills with this one.
Finished it in a day and a half and want the next one.

Ok, Y'all know murder mysteries aren't my first choice for listening pleasure, but this story had my attention in the first few seconds. Nick's humor drew me in that quickly, and kept me laughing out loud throughout this dramatic tale. I really dug the (Story, within a story) aspect. The one thing that rubbed me wrong, was the part where Thomas, the main character, lies to gain entry to a suspect's home. A Black Man and a Hispanic Woman lose their jobs, as a result of his deceit; yet, Thomas show more helps the Hispanic Woman to get her job back, even-though the Black Man's wife is pregnant with twins.

Please understand that I listen to many stories that I don't bother to review, because I'd rather write a good review, than to waste my time bashing authors who have toiled to entertain lil-ole me. But I, being BLACK, live in the real world, where being unvalued, unseen, and invisible is everyday, and it sucks to read it, or listen to it in my fiction. Not sorry for thinking pollyannaishly, but I want my fiction to help make the world a better place - but I did have fun listening to this story...SMILE!!!
