Grosser Historischer Weltatlas by Hermann Bengtson
Probably the best single historical atlas available. It's the Bavarian schoolbook atlas, but just beats the pants off anything in English. First edition was in 1953; I have the 1978 edition in four volumes, but I imagine there's another update that shows Europe after the collapse of the USSR.

Il Bengtson era uno con idee un po' particolari (un po' come il Mario Attilio Levi della Storia dei popoli e delle civiltà della UTET). Inoltre questa guida è molto datata (l'originale è del 1975); ci sono degli aggiornamenti bibliografici, ma sono comunque precedenti il 1990. Inoltre l'opera è rivolta prevalentemente al pubblico tedesco.

Moest je toch een propedeuse-boek in het Duits lezen! Was een "open handboek-tentamen"-wat ik toch twee keer moest doen.Ach, dan blijft het wel bij.
