I chose to read this following the HAMAS attack on Israel In October 2023. Ian Black the author has been credited with giving a true account from both Israelis and Palestinians which is quite a feat. It took me a long time to read it but worth the effort if only I could remember all its details.
This may just turn out to be the definitive work on the jewish states's highly touted and often emuleted intelligence operations.
How the Israeli intelligence services got so good
An acceptable introduction to the history of the conflict. But for depth, I recommend:
Goldberg, 'To the Promised Land' on the history of Zionist ideology;
Kimmerling, 'The Palestinian People' on the development of Palestinian nationhood;
Palumbo, 'The Palestinian Catastrophe' on the Nakba/War of Independence;
Nathan, 'The Other Side of Israel' on the Arab-Israelis;
and Blumenthal, 'Goliath' on contemporary Israel.
