I have to give this book a great review because I edited it, and it contains translations by one of the finest Spanish to English translators ever: Helen Lane. Ricardo Palma was a great nineteenth-century Peruvian humorist and author of historical miscellany. This book contains a collection of his playful tales --culled from oral tradition in Lima, as well as historical accounts-- about life in Peru from the 1500s to the 1800's. Some of the pieces are marked by humor, other are drier but show more chock full of historical detail. show less
