A much better effort than Miles Hadfield's previous effort (Gardens, Pleasures and Treasures). Perhaps his brother John was the real author? At any rate, this book was very nicely illustrated with plates taken from paintings, although every other plate is black and white. Also, my copy of this book tended to have the plates leave deposits on the pages of the book. Most annoying.
Text is interesting.
Text is interesting.
Plenty of illustrations, but not much content. Essentially a book to give to one's friends who don't much like gardening in the hope that this small book will encourage them to at least appreciate one's own efforts to maintain a garden.
