About the Author
Enid Blyton, 1897 - November 28, 1968 Enid Blyton was born in London in 1897. She was educated in a private school and thought that she would become a musician until she realized that writing was her passion. She attended Ipswich High School where she trained to become a kindergarten teacher and show more eventually opened her own school for infants. Blyton's first poem was published in 1917, entitled "Have You-" which appeared in Nash's Magazine. In 1922, her first book of verses was published, entitled "Child Whispers." In 1926 she accepted a position editing the children's magazine "Sunny Stories" as well as writing the column "Teachers World." Blyton's first full length children's book was published din 1938 and was titled "The Secret Island." After working on the column for years, Blyton quit "Teachers World" in 1945 and also ended her stint as editor of "Sunny Stories" seven years later. In 1953 she started her own children's magazine called "The Edith Blyton Magazine" which featured stories about her characters and news on the clubs formed around them. Her most famous stories were those of the "Famous Five" The Magazine closed in 1959. In the 50's and 60's Blyton was criticized for the language in her book, for being to simple, but some 300 are still in print today. Blyton has published over 600 books in the course of her career. Enid Blyton died in her sleep on November 28, 1968. She was 71 years old. show less

Enid Blyton’s Five Go To Billycock Hill is another delightful instalment in the beloved Famous Five series, packed with adventure, friendship, and just the right amount of mischief. This time, Julian, Dick, Anne, George, and Timmy the dog set up camp on Billycock Hill, where they meet Toby—a fun-loving farm boy with a knack for pranks. The story quickly takes a thrilling turn when two RAF pilots, including Toby’s cousin Jeff, are accused of defecting and stealing top-secret planes!

Me ha gustado mucho la trama. Es interesante, intrigante, aventuresca... Pero no soporto lo socialmente outdated que está. El mensaje de este libro es «si eres un cobarde, no sirves para nada. No seas como Ricardo». Por supuesto, al final del libro el niño hace algo «valeroso» y ya no lo consideran una lacra social. Al menos no del todo.
No puedo, no puedo con algunas cosas de esta saga aunque sea porque es víctima de su tiempo. Al menos aquí no ha habido sexismo... (la barra, show more también he de decir, está muy baja; otros libros de la saga están llenos). show less

The seventh book in Enid Blyton's The Noddy Library, a series of chapter-books devoted to the adventures of a wooden toy with a nodding head, Noddy at the Seaside sees our hero on holiday with his good friend, Big Ears the brownie. Whether learning that the sea comes in and goes out, or discovering that it isn't a very pleasant experience to "catch" a crab, Noddy and Big Ears enjoy their time at the shore. But all vacations must come to an end...
As mentioned in my reviews of Well Done Noddy! show more and Noddy Goes to School, the fifth and sixth titles in the series, I understand that there is some controversy attached to these books, due to the inclusion of black-faced wooden dolls - called golliwogs - in the original editions. My copies were printed in 1996 however, and must be revised editions, as I encountered no golliwogs.
But despite my relief that the young readers of today will not have egregiously racist depictions forced upon them, I cannot recommend the Noddy books, which I find mawkishly sentimental, and I continue to be mystified by Blyton's worldwide popularity. show less

The tenth entry in Enid Blyton's Five Find-Outers and Dog series, in which a group of British schoolchildren play detective on their holidays, The Mystery of the Strange Bundle sees Fatty, Larry, Daisy, Pip and Bets involved in a puzzling case of house-breaking. When Larry and Daisy's neighbor, Mr. Fellows, disappears, leaving behind a scene of utter chaos, burglary is suspected, and the Find-Outers are immediately on the case. What was the thief looking for? Where had Mr. Fellows gone, and show more what was in the strange bundle he'd taken with him? Could it have anything to do with the little red mitten Fatty had found in his house? And would the children discover the secret before their nemesis, police bobby Mr. Goon?
I enjoyed this installment of the series, particularly the scenes where Fatty uses his new ventriloquism skills to play tricks on the pompous Mr. Goon. As mentioned in my reviews of some of the other Five Find-Outers and Dog books, these aren't terribly original (or plausible) stories, nor are they particularly well-written. But the humor, when Blyton gets it right, can be infectious, and the characters appealing.
I did feel that the resolution of the mystery was a little too much in the "world conspiracy involving ALL the traditional bugaboos of the upper-class British mind-set" vein. It reminded me a bit of the conspiracy uncovered in Agatha Christie's N or M?, in which everything from Irish Republicanism to labor unrest was depicted as being part of one monolithic whole. In a similar fashion, the nameless intelligence agent here reflects upon all the fifth column activity going on, including all those "people undermining every industry in our country - provoking strikes, sabotage, anything that would harm Britain." The idea that strikes occur because of unjust labor practices was (and probably still is) somewhat difficult for a certain demographic to grasp. Ah well! show less
