With the possible exception of some politicians the people discussed here didn’t do or create anything of lasting significance, and yet the authors tell a very engrossing story, with just enough details about personal appearance, wardrobe, home decor, a few bons mots—-whatever is required to give us the essence of each Soul. An extensive bibliography for those who want more.
This book, like all books on jewelry, could have used some colour plates. Alas, it was printed entirely in black and white. Still a useful book, but not as valuable as more opulently printed books.
Not overly loaded with beautiful colour plates, but it DOES have short biographies of major metalworkers, and also their marks.
Organized by by major periods of change during the Victorian age, also includes methods, materials, souvenirs, mourning, and botanical jewelry
