The boss : J. Edgar Hoover and the Great American Inquisition by Athan G. Theoharis

One of the best books I've read on J. Edgar Hoover concerning his amazing ability to con the American public into thinking he was an icon of upright and upstanding morality, whilst spying with glee on the private lives of citizens in order to blackmail them into following his demands for morality.
