I had forgotten just how much I enjoyed Paris till I reread this series! Set in 1900 France, Paris is very liberated (her mother is a doctor), American, and independent. The culture clash can at times be fascinating and amusing. These books are action packed and too short!
In this first book she is sent from Chicago to her namesake city to live with her uncle for a year. Upon reaching her uncle's house, she discovers he has been murdered. With the help of a student doctor, Paris (who has an show more undying love for Sherlock Holmes) attempts to hunt down her uncle's killer after she decides the police are useless. show less
This was a visit to a childhood favourite. I had fallen in love with Paris MacKenzie, and I wished I could be as clever, clear headed, and articulate.

Reading it again as an adult, it retained its charm, and the art deco illustrations are wonderful. Alas, the glue has given way and pages were falling out as I read.
