First read--if you could call it reading--was in sixth grade, as assigned by Mrs. Becker. I love you Irene, but that first chapter was a tall order for almost any 12-year-old, except perhaps my part-French classmate, Katie Mahan. So I skimmed it. Got the idea. Seemed to remember a fellow named Carton.

But this time was great. I found the character of the collective "patriot" very similar to certain groups in this, our progressive era, in that allegiance to the project must be over 100%, and show more if anyone had so much as a whiff of doubt as to one's allegiance, theirs would be the next turn at La Guillotine.

Last chapters were dynamite. Sydney Carton is the best dark horse protagonist of all time.

"Lost in the Snow" by Linda Jennings is a charming story for young readers, especially when shared aloud. It follows a puppy that gets lost in the snow, focusing on themes like adventure, resilience, and helping others. The gentle yet engaging story keeps kids interested as they follow the puppy's journey home. The simple and repetitive text allows children to guess what will happen next, which boosts their reading confidence. Alison Edgson’s illustrations enhance the story, showing soft show more snowy landscapes and a warm puppy. These visuals help kids connect with the character's feelings and encourage them to use their imagination while reading.
Overall, "Lost in the Snow" is a wonderful read-aloud choice. It's a gentle adventure that entertains while also teaching important lessons about kindness and helping others, making it great for cozy reading time.

This book is gorgeous! I was attracted to read it by its big beautiful cover with sparkly white lettering and sparkly white snowflakes falling all around a single puppy. The cover is beautiful enough to frame and hang up in a child's room!

The story, with fantastic illustrations, is about a puppy who goes out into the snow to play. Suddenly his siblings are gone, and he finds himself alone in the snow. The puppy named Ollie encounters an owl, some baby foxes, and a mouse in his attempts to show more find his way home, but eventually it is his mother's voice he hears which brings him home.

This is a lovely story. An especially good time to share it with a young child might be on a cold, winter's night when the reader and the child can snuggle up together.

Poor Buster the dog has been abandoned on Christmas Eve. Cold and frightened, he wanders in search of comfort. He is chased away from every door. Finally he follows carolers to the home of an old man who wants a dog just as much as Buster wants a home.
