A description of an event that swept across Europe in 1848, and was instrumental in the formation of the republics which are such a feature of Europe today. It was an assault on the rigid monarchies that had replaced the Napoleonic upheaval, and even though in some cases, like that of France, the revolts were perverted to the modern forms of autocracy, still was successful in starting long term changes. Robertson also demonstrates some of the flaws of these nationalist centered actions. A show more sensible appreciation of the period. show less
