Essays on Ohio by writers who grew up in Ohio, including a forward by R.L. Stine and contributions by Jill Bialosky, Michael Dirda, Rita Dove, Susan Orlean, P.J. O'Rourke, Alix Kates Shulman, Dan Cryer, Ian Frazier, Dale Krieger, Julie Salamon, James Toedtman, Mark Winegardner, Elizabeth Dodd, Anthony Doerr, Andrea Louie, Kathleen Dean Moore, Mary Oliver, Scott Russell Sanders, and Jeffrey Smith. I had not heard of many of these authors/poets before reading this book, but have been inspired show more to check a few out based on their pieces. Some of the essays are humorous, others more serious, but overall a nice mix of the two. I especially enjoyed the pieces by Dirda, O'Rourke and Winegardner. I think everyone would enjoy the reflections on growing up in the Ohio, even non-Ohians. A great read! show less
This atlas covers geographic features, important products manufactured, and general customs, etc. for all the continents (Europe and Asia are subdivided over many pages). It's out of date, however, at this point because it was copywrited in 1976.
