Extremely intelligent and rebellious teenager Garran Holt acts out one too many times and *may* have knocked up the mayors daughter. Fed up, his mother and step father sell him into indentured servitude building the king's new trade route. When the route is attacked by mercenaries, he discovers a power he didn't know he had and may just end up saving the kingdom. If he doesn't drink himself to death first. This hilarious book has unexpected twists and turns and quite possibly the best show more dialogue I've read in an adventure novel. Book 2 remains solid, if not better. I can't recommend this series enough. I don't think I've laughed this hard while reading a book. show less
Pretty hand-wavy about the whole technological innovation and iteration process, but if you want a 'mages vs firearms' plot, this is it in one pretty snappy book. Also, airships. Heroic BSoD. Epic underdog vengeance. One-man revolution against the magocracy. Apparently a prologue to a longer series with a sizeable time-skip to the next book.

Oh my GOD! This is so hilarious! I laughed so hard and giggled throughout this book! It is even better than the first book! Our inappropriate and crazy guy is now an agent. He seems like a fool but he really is very smart, he also is quite snarky and annoying to be around. He is so annoying his companions don't know to laugh or hit him. But show more he is traveling with a monk so that isn't likely. I had such a good time learning new phrases such as being as worthless as "Tits on a pickle", later just called " Pickle tits".
They narrator was so great at making the story even better with the voices! It's not easy to do comedy but he did it perfect! My sides are hurting from laughing. Great job!
Can't wait for the next book!!!

Shrouds of Darkness
Brooklyn Shadows, Book 1

This is one of the best books I've read in a long time. Loved it! If you like vampires, werewolves, mysteries, humor, and fast paced fun reads this is your book. A vampire PI and occasionally hired gun/body guard takes a case that ends up taking 3 cases... all from different parties and all lead to the same conclusion. Action packed, with show more lots of humor scattered throughout that kept me giggling like a school girl, and great fight scenes for the evil side of me ;p
The narrator was perfect!!! I felt like I was in a movie, the voices and emotional effects were awesome! Terrific performance. Not easy to do comedy and it was done with perfection. Great job!
