A post-apocalyptic sci-fi novel where floating, technologically advanced "Structure" cities depend on helium from rural "Hinterland" tribes for survival, but tensions rise when the tribes demand the city leader's son as a hostage, leading to political intrigue, betrayal, and a prophesied collapse of the cities as negotiator Mycal Bono gets caught in the conflict.

Mycal Bono attempts to negotiate for essential materials, his entanglement with city politics and individuals like the manipulative show more Regina, and the unfolding of a deeper, destructive prophecy involving both urban and rural factions. show less
This is most definitely no great feat of writing but I really enjoy it and seem to dip into it every year or so (when I happen to see it on the shelves when I'm in the right mood).

I just find it a nice, light read.
A quote; "Many strange sex acts with the rabbit now lay in his past; the acts had added to his present state of degradation."
